Sharon Lee and Steve Miller began writing together in the 1980s, to bring the world the story of Kinzel, an inept wizard with a love of cats, a thirst for justice, and a staff of True Power.
In the decades since, until Steve's death in 2024, the Lee-and-Miller writing team published over 100 works of fantastic fiction, the majority set in their genre-bending Liaden Universe®, and reflecting their shared philosophy that fiction ought to be fun – both the reading and the writing of it.
The first novel in the Liaden Universe®, Agent of Change, was first published in 1988. The 27th novel, Diviner's Bow, will be published in April 2025.
Sharon has published under her own byline five novels set in Maine: two cozy mysteries, Barnburner and Gunshy, and a fantasy trilogy, Carousel Tides, Carousel Sun, and Carousel Seas.
During their long, and storied, career Steve and Sharon were celebrated as guests of honor at more than two dozen science fiction conventions across the country, and were also frequent panelists, and featured speakers.
Awards for their work include the Prism for Best Futuristic Romance, The Golden Duck for Best YA SF, and the Reader's Choice Award for the Year's Best Military and Adventure SF of 2017.
In 2012, Sharon and Steve were jointly awarded the Edward E. Smith Memorial Award for Imaginative Fiction, aka the Skylark Award. Sharon is continuing to work in the universe she and Steve built together.
Sharon was named the 2025 recipient of the Robert A. Heinlein for outstanding published works in science fiction and technical writings that inspire the human exploration of space.
