Bette Bergeron

Bette Bergeron

A native of Maine, Bette Bergeron lives on the coast with her husband and their irrepressible cat, Theia. Bette has completed three contemporary novels, all of which are framed by Maine’s unique sense of place and its eclectic and resilient people. The Fragility of Seashells blends literary fiction with suspense in its exploration of generational family secrets; The Sea Curser is a work of speculative fiction grounded in Maine’s sea lore; and Resisting the Rabbit Hole focuses on the challenges faced by today’s teachers and the consequences they face when politics of exclusion intrude into classrooms.

Professionally, Bette is a teacher educator and former university administrator. She earned her undergraduate degree in Education from the University of Maine Orono, and her M.S.Ed. and Ph.D. in Literacy from Purdue University. She has co-authored two professional books related to literacy education (published by Scholastic and Kendall Hunt). An author of over 80 professional articles and conference proceedings, her work has been published in a variety of journals including The Reading Teacher, Journal of Reading Behavior, and Urban Education. Bette is a member of the Authors Guild, Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance, Manuscript Academy, Rockin’ Writers, and a Writing Critique Group. When not reading, writing, or wandering the beaches in southern Maine, Bette can be found playing the saxophone in a local community band.
