Catherine Schmitt

Catherine Schmitt is a science writer and the author of Historic Acadia National Park; The President's Salmon: Restoring the King of Fish and its Home Waters, a environmental history of the Penobscot River told through the "Presidential Salmon" tradition, and A Coastal Companion: A Year in the Gulf of Maine from Cape Cod to Canada. She directs communications for the Maine Sea Grant College Program at the University of Maine, where she draws on her education and experience in both science and writing.

Schmitt's published work has appeared in newspapers, magazines, and journals, including Atlantic Salmon Journal, Cold Mountain Review, Collective Quarterly, Maine Boats, Home & Harbors Magazine, The Working Waterfront, Island Journal, Terrain, and 1966.
